My son was telling me about an individual at work that said some very bad things about veterans and it made me mad. Veterans are not murders or puppets of the politicians and we do think like other people. I do not had a problem with any group are individual stating their beliefs but I do have a problem with an individual or group not wanting me to state mine! Especially, when I and many other of my brothers served to give them that right. Don't ever blame the soldier for the war, put the blame on the politician for getting it started. Blame the loss of Vietnam on the same people it was their policies that make things get drawn out to years. If the military were allowed to go into a war theater with no orders not to cross borders or allowed to use the same tactics as their enemy, wars would last weeks instead of years. I don't condone the tactics of other countries but they should be held accountable, just as our politicians should be. Get out and vote for the person not the party and if a third party wins so be it. Maybe then the president and his bad policies will be changed to work for the people not for his own agenda. Thank a vet for his service! I know the other day when a young man of about 9 walked up to me and ask if I was a vet and thanked me for me service it made me feel good. Remember Mr President the military swears allegiance to the people not the party!

Butterfly kisses

Last June my wife and I lost a every dear friend. She was a sister to us and a second mom to our kids. She loved giraffes and butterflies. We found her many years ago in an apartment with a dog she loved. She was blind and had MS but that didn't stop her from being a great teacher. Between her and my wife I always had my hands full with the things they needed done and driving all over creation for this or that. We always tried to let her know she was loved. Many times when she or my wife were upset they'd call each other in the middle of the night and spend hours counting their blessings. The funny thing is it usually sounded like a who could best whom session. Sometimes I would just shake me head at the absurdity of it all but would give anything to hear the two of them do it again. Better yet I think I would like the opportunity to join in. We love and miss you little sister and hope you are like the butterfly and are sitting on our shoulders and at God feet.

I remember several times in the past when a statement crossed my lips and the second it was out I regretted saying such a thing. For example, one time a friend and I skipped to friends party to go to a concert. I told him the truth about the concert but she told him she was sick and couldn't be there. The next day I thanked him for excusing me from the party and the Mary and I had a great time. I did not know what she had told him and I had caused fraction between the two. It took two years of apologising to get her to forgive me. Of course, she wasn't mad at her brother but I was the chosen choose for her rage.  People do these kinds of things all the time and it always hurts when others get their feeling hurt.  I believe that communication is an essential part of life to be used with great skill. We must take great care to be accurate in what we say to convey our meaning. Probably the hardest thing to do is stand up to a person and apologise after such a misunderstanding. It never turns out well for either of the particants becausse the words can not be taken back. Aways consider your words carefully when you speak because you don't want the possibility that statement could be misintrepided. Alway clearly state what you mean to convey. Above all if in doubt about relaying information make sure it is okay with others involved in your joint venture.

Dream Big and Grow Even Bigger

A long time ago God set up the family to teach us about life. We are beginners that are unable to care for ourselves and they do every thing for us. If you think about it a family unit is similar to a team of players working together to accomplish a common task or goal. Most of us are lucky enough to have two life coaches in our parents. They help to form a foundation that gives us the knowledge to cope with the challenges of life. After successful competion of this challenging task of growing us to maturity, we begin life's journey choosing our own destiny.  As we progress we learn from other coaches we find along the way such as; teachers, peers, ministers, etc. These coaches help us learn to be self-sufficient so we can venture out in the world to become a useful part of society. The teachings of our coaches and mentors usually point us in a direction we choose to go.

I remember when I was young my father talked about one of the things that helped him become a man was enlisting in the army. Since that was his vision of manhood, of course I knew I want to join when I grew up. I spent 11 years in the Army trying to find myself and running from myself. I consider myself a failure because my dad and others had told me over and over I was. Every time I started to get a little pride in myself someone would tear me apart again. The good thing is I finally realized you aren't what others think; you are what you make yourself. We should all dream big work towards making things happen in our lives. Find your passion and turn that into your dream and goal to achieve.

When I was a child I remember falling down and someone always put out a hand and helping me up. The question is where did all those hands go? Today if I fall down I look around to see if anyone saw, I get up, and try to be as inconspicious as possible. The problem is we  need the support of others when we fail at a project or task. Throughout my life I have looked for the approval of others but never ask for it. When I did something I let others take the credit and felt disappointed when they got the promotion I wanted. I figured that others would notice the great job I did or the guy promoted would help me get a leg up. The unfortunate thing was they usually were afraid that someone would notice that I was better or more resourceful so I got move to where I wasn't noticed as easily.

Think about it, if you fall don't be embarrassed get up and draw attention to yourself. If you fail learn from your failures and show others the wisdom in events of the past. Put out a hand to help others and they will in turn help you. But above all take responsibility for your successes and failures.

Harvest time

Jim Rohn once said: “The greatest form of maturity is at harvest time. That is when we must learn how to reap without complaint if the amounts are small and how to reap without apology if the amounts are big.”

This is probably the biggest problem I have, as many do. When I was a child I always felt inferior to others and tried hard to make up for it. I was great with board games and cards. I was usually accused of cheating if I won too much and had to learn to throw a few games. The easiest way to do this was to just throw the hand into a pile of cards and mix them up immediately. However, I’d usually wound up getting mad when someone started bragging about how much better they were than I was. Ergo, I would win several in a row after that to feed my ego and thereby got accused of cheating even though I clearly had not. As I grew older, I have learned winning is not everything and that it does not hurt to play and let others win, especially kids. I have a soft spot for people that need self esteem. I usually try to build them up. The problem is by doing that sometimes I have to make myself look bad.

I have always picked the underdog to win and do things others would not consider. My wife has cerebral palsy and the first time I met her she’d been crying all night after being dumped by a slug. I felt sorry for her but, saw great potential in her. She had dreams and no where to go for help. I had been hurt several times in the past and knew how she felt. I proceeded to tell her she was going to marry me and we got married within six months. Remember, I never asked her to marry me I just told her she would. I have since rectified that situation by asking her several times to marry me. She gets upset quite often since I push too hard to make thing better, for some reason or another. (Maybe I should give the poor woman a break, since she had to put up with me for all these years.) At first there was no love on either side of the relationship, but a friendship developed over time. Everything she told me she could not do because some well meaning person told her so, I saw to it that she accomplished. Have kids, no problem. Teach school, go to college and get the job. Anything she dreamed or thought of I tried to find a way, including teaching her to drive without hand controls. Over the years we fell in love and have been happily married for over 37 years.

I do not apologize for my actions, though most people would probably say I should. I probably should never have interfered in her life. But I say the results were clearly worth the effort. I received the greatest prize out of this and that was a beautiful wife and family.
